A really good ridge walk. 10.5 miles, 3,900 ft ascent.
12 started the walk, but Rona decided to walk the lower snowdonia side, she got rain, and we had sunshine filtering through the clouds showing gorgeous light falling across the fells.
first up the grassy slope of Y Garn which deceivingly has 2000 ft drop on the other side. Then climbing along a rocky scramble path which is narrow and steep in parts to Mynydd Dre’s y Coed with amazing views ( And drops) down south side.
next along a long grassy ridge to Trum y Ddysgl and onto Mynydd Tal y Mignedd and a huge Chimney Obelisk where we had lunch, and “ Guinness mash cake” for Craig’s birthday.
We dropped down and then started the ascent to the Craig Cwm Sillyn, it was at the lower site that Paul B had his accident, a helicopter also flew past at same time, but fortunately not for us this time.
We walked up the rocky path to the highest point on Nantle ridge unfortunately in cloud, but at times we had been able to see all the North Wales Coastline.
we came down the same route back to the shoulder, but views are different.
We then continued off piste down the slope towards an old mining quarry, which had caves and deep clear ponds and tracks from the old workings. We saw Fields of deep bluebells which were so intense they looked like carpets of slate.
We did have another climb climb of 1000 ft to get out of the valley, which was a bit of sting in the tail at the end of the day when we were tired.
We then came out into Bedgelert Forest and back to Rhydd Dhu car park to meet Rona. Another long, challenging day but such an excellent walk.
